Description: Lexington Historical Society maintains three historic houses: Hancock-Clarke House, Paul Revere's destination on that fateful night of April 18, 1775; Buckman Tavern, Minuteman Headquarters, where Captain Parker's troops assembled before the battle with the British on the Common (now known as the Lexington Battle Green); and Munroe Tavern, headquarters and field hospital for British troops on the afternoon of April 19, 1775, and where President Washington dined in 1789. View the Garden of Colonial Flowers at Munroe Tavern, a collection of flowering plants and culinary herbs grown in the Boston area before 1830. Garden viewing is free. Also visit the Antique Fire Equipment Museum, located in the Fire Barn behind the Hancock-Clarke House. The Old Belfry, which sounded the alarm on April 19, 1775, was erected by the Society in its original location on the hill in sight of the Battle Green. Free.
