Description
The Old Lighthouse c 1823 was the first government operated lighthouse in Connecticut. It was originally a 30 foot stone tower built on the Point and supported a lantern containing ten oil lamps and parabolic reflectors and its light could be seen 12 miles at sea. Due to storm damage and erosion the structure was moved to its present site and now houses the Historical Society of Stonington. Six rooms of exhibits show the rich and varied history of this coastal region expressing the lives of fishermen, farmers, merchants, shipbuilders, pottery makers, blacksmiths and various other trades. May & June, Sept. & Oct. Tues-Sun. 10-5, July & Aug. daily 10-5. Adults $4 children (6-12) $2. Call 860 535 1440 for any change in schedule or admission fees.
