Description
The Harriet Beecher Stowe House, built in 1871, is a fine example of a 19th century "cottage" with a suggestion of the romantic villas made popular by Andres J. Downing and Calvert Vaux, Author of Uncle Tom's Cabin, Poganuc People, and more than 30 other books, Mrs. Stowe lived here from 1873 until her death in 1896. Guided tours begin at the Visitor Center. Open year round Tuesday-Saturday 9:30 am-4 pm: Sundays l2:00-4 PM. Open Mondays: June l-Columbus Day and December. Museum Shop open until 5 PM. The houses are closed Jan.l, Easter Sunday, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Dec. 24 and 25: Fee is charged for the joint house tour. The Museum shop features a comprehensive selection of the works of Mark Twain and Harriet Beecher Stowe and many Victorian gift items.
