Description
A new Museum Center enhances the visitor experience at The Mark Twain House, a National Historic Landmark. Twain called his time "The Gilded Age," and when you step inside his restored 19-room Victorian mansion, you will realize it reflects the grand lifestyle of its famed owner. The 1881 decorative work of Louis Comfort Tiffany and Associated Artists is preserved in the meticulous restoration of the interior of the home where Samuel Clemens and his wife, Livy, raised their three daughters and entertained notable visitors of the 1870's and 1880's. Before he left the house in 1891, Twait wrote his greatest works, including "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn." Expert guides escort you through the home, which is filled with original furnishings, period pieces, paintings, and family memorabilia. New Museum Center includes changing exhibitions about Twain's life, times and legacy; a film by Ken Burns; The Mark Twain Store with books, elegant jewelry and other fine gifts; and The Mark Twain Cafe with seatin for 60.
